Accounting had never been an easy subject for me. During high school, I attempted to take Accounting as one of the subjects for SPM. However, I dropped it a year later as it was too difficult for me to catch up. Back then, I thought that I would never study accounting again.
FNBE proved me wrong.
As I wanted to go study Quantity Surveying for my bachelor's degree, I did not expect to have Basic Accounting as a core subject, not to mention one of the two highest credit-hour modules. Anyway, I told myself to give it a try.
After a few week into this subject, I realised that it was not as difficult as I imagined. Perhaps it is because of the lecturer, or maybe it is the language. Frankly, I really enjoyed the whole process of learning basic accounting as I get to know about managing income and expenses in more technical details.
One of my favourite topics is the Financial Ratio Analysis. It is amazing to be able to find out a company's condition based on such simple calculations. It also helped me to further understand the share market. It was the first time I ever studied an annual report in detail.
Another topic I like is the Breakeven Analysis. I have always wondered that it takes to keep a business running as a lot of shops in my neighbourhood kept going out of business after only a few months. After knowing the basic idea I began to better understand their situations.
In a nutshell, it was an amazing semester and I was lucky to have an interesting lecturer who did his best to make sure we understand everything he delivered.
